religion.

now. i think that im a very tolerant person and i respect and have an interest in all the different belief systems that people around the world have. so when you talk to me about religion, i wont give you any crap or disrespect because i like to know the real truth behind things rather than listen to people telling me their possibly biased opinions.

after my last jovial post, i got a comment:

What are you doing on a christian website?! I thought your Buddhist! OR are you trying to convert? lol.

Yes Nick, religion as in C-H-R-I-S-T-I-A-N-I-T-Y not B-U-D-D-H-I-S-M...

I thought Buddhists don't celebrate christimas. I think they use the Bodhi tree instead and Hotei the Buddhist Santa lol

In this context, I wonder if this "religion increase your chances of sex" applies also to Buddhism

In Cambodia, we don't see Christians going down and burning Buddhist "wats" down. It's only Buddhism who come and burn Christian churchs down!

hmm. very interesting comment there stephen. actually i wasnt thinking about religion at all when i was posting that. i think i said that i found it interesting? i like learning about other religions and the whole connection between the song and Catholicism was cool. but anyway;

its also interesting to note that you finished with anti-Buddhist sentiment there. The people that do those things arent Buddhist at all because our religion teaches us to respect and care for others - not go around burning down their sacred places.. which is really.. bad. So you can liken them to people like hamas and al qaeda who take things way out of context so people get ideas like you and start saying that an entire religion is represented by a small group of extremists.

and also i dunno who hotei is.. sounds jap. Buddhism isnt uniform everywhere so i guess hotei is a local addition. in cambodia we call him 'ta noh-el' or grandpa noel after the french word for christmas

and no one said i cant go on a Christian website just because im Buddhist ? its called learning. oh and Buddhists can celebrate whatever they want! its not a restrictive religion at all.. in fact when the Dalai Lama visited a church somewhere in Europe he said that 'This is a very sacred place' and he knelt down and prayed. you cant get much more accepting of other religions than that. but thats an idea about decorating a Bodhi tree lol..

but anyway we shouldnt try and say which religion is better. just please dont talk down about my faith with comments that have an underlying religious elitist tone about them (say that 5 times fast):

the so called 'reincarnation' prince? i dont go around saying that Jesus 'apparently rose from the dead' or the 'supposed Father in Heaven' will save us all. its not respectful nor is it polite to the millions or even billions who believe.

sometimes i even think to myself that religion can almost be unnecessary. i mean if you live a good life.. do honourable, respectful and caring things.. be a good person and be good to others and all that.. then if there is an afterlife you will surely be rewarded regardless of whether you had a religion or not.

so ill tell you now.. the sex thing was a joke like many of the other things i say up here.. but this is not. religion is a very touchy subject. if you have an opinion of another religion that would obviously or even slightly have a chance of making somebody feel uncomfortable, dont say it. simple as that. theres no need to go around spreading your beliefs to everybody and condemning those that dont believe in what you do.. thats what happened back with the crusades.. with all those people dying for the sake of religion.. thats not what faith is about. violence is stupid. i personally dont think theres a need for 'conversion' missionaries either... i mean helping others is great and i like that side of missionaries.. but converting everyone? unnecessary. just help them and be glad that you did something good.

so please everyone. if you know things about a religion and theyre not nice then dont say them. we need more LOVE than HATE lol. promote unity. i know Muslims will agree with me here when i say that a small group of people does not represent the majority and things can get out of hand when sentiments like these are spread around. just be happy in what you do and be happy that other people are happy in what they do. enjoy the happiness of others, because like a candle flame, it cannot be diminished by sharing.
